Leasing beats as an up-and-coming artist

Read the list below. If you can identify with most of these points, then you'd better off leasing beats (licensing):

  • You have a social follower or fan base of fewer than 10,000 people, all channels combined
  • Usually, you get 1000 views on YouTube and Soundcloud at most
  • You haven’t released a single, promotional album or EP yet
  • You don't have a good understanding of how the music industry works and just starting your career because you have a passion for music

If you can identify with at least 3 statements above, It doesn't mean you're not good enough artist for exclusive beats. It's quite opposite, really. I just want you to save your money by investing smarter


There are different types of licenses

Some of the licenses on my website are amazing alternatives for exclusive rights, in terms of rights that you get. For example, Pro Trackout License allows you to have up to 500 000 streams and up to 10000 sales for 89.95$. And Unlimited License allows your unlimited commercial rights for 179.95$. Both options are way more affordable than exclusive rights and allow you to use the beat commercially.


You can always upgrade your license

You can always upgrade your license or purchase the exclusive rights. If you're currently leasing one of my beats, there is an option to upgrade your license to a better one in terms of rights or to purchase the exclusive license. Not every producer offers this feature and I'm proud to say that I do. You'll only pay the difference.


Buying Exclusive Rights

Exclusive Rights grant you unlimited commercial recordings and broadcasts. You have full rights to record, alter, mix the beat/song in any shape, way, or form (except reselling the beat). The producer may no longer lease the instrumental, which means you'll be the only artist having the beat you purchased in the long term. Unlike license, exclusive rights have no expiration date (licenses have them, but long enough for you to record a song, promote it and update your license, usually you can use the beat for 4-8 years without worries).

You should consider buying exclusive rights if:

  • You have at least 25000 subscribers/fans on social media (all social media accounts combined)
  • You’re signed to a label or are going to be signed soon
  • You have a publishing deal
  • You have money to spend on promotion, beats (exclusive rights start at 1000$ per one beat, however, if you purchase more I offer some good discounts), music videos, etc.
  • Usually, you get a decent amount of views on YouTube (or Soundcloud, Bandcamp). Or you see a regular growth in views
  • You're the type of artist who likes having only exclusive production on his or her project
  • You really love the beat that you want to purchase and don't want to lose a chance to purchase exclusive rights in the future (explained in the paragraph below)

Sometimes, leasing beats can backfire. If someone else comes along and decides they like a beat you’ve leased enough to buy it outright (exclusive rights), it means that you'll be no longer able to update your license or to purchase the exclusive rights for the beat you're currently leasing
